PlantExplorers.com

Our Mission statement

PlantExplorers' SeedsPlantExplorers.com is a resource for anyone who likes plants, and anyone who wants to learn more about them. And PlantExplorers.com is for the people who discovered those plants, and the people who continue to search the far corners of the globe for new plants. To help our members and visitors accomplish this, we are developing an on-line encyclopedia of plants.

As our membership grows, so will the content of our site. This project is designed to reflect the lives and the interests of our members and visitors, and will grow and evolve over time. Our intention is to offer in one location the resources needed by people who pursue plants.

PlantExplorers.com is also currently researching the possibility of creating webstores for botanical gardens and institutions, and we will be assisting other groups in developing online resources for heritage seed exchanges in countries around the world. For further information, please e-mail us at

PlantExplorers.com is also a celebration of plant exploration both past and present, with articles on historical explorers, and pages for their modern counterparts (our membership) to tell their own tales of discovery.

Content

In the 'Explorers' portion of this site you will see the 'Selected by Science Educators - SciLinks from NSTA' label, which we are proud to display as recognition by the National Science Teachers Association of the work we have put into the biographies (much like the effort we put into all aspects of the site).

Our web site is constantly growing and changing, so if you wish to link to a page in our site, you should link only to the main title pages.

Our Privacy Commitment

At PlantExplorers.com we value your privacy as much as we value our own (which is a heck of a lot, just in case you were wondering). Read our full Privacy Statement here...

Some notes about the design of this site

This site has been designed to function well at a number of lower screen resolutions, but is best if viewed at 1024 x 768 or higher. We are currently reconstructing much of the site, changing old static pages into dynamically served pages that better meet the information needs of our visitors. Since this requires the construction of a number of inter-linked databases as well as style sheets and new page structures, the may be a little construction mess from time to time in some areas of our site. However, we are confident that the results will bowl you over.

Now a few well chosen words about browsers: This site has been developed to work on a wide variety of browser platforms and versions. We do recommend that people using either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator use a 6.0 or 7.0 version or higher. This site is a living document, and as such is undergoing changes on a regular basis. This means that support for very old browsers is not realistic for us to maintain, so we do recommend using a current release for the best results. Opera is another browser choice that is proving to be one of the most stable and reliable browsers available and possibly the very best browser available anywhere at the moment is Mozilla Firefox
