Description: A unique tropical looking small tree of grace, function and form. Harvests of 25kg of sweet avocodo sized vitamin packed vanilla pudding/banana/strawberry/mango tasting fruits are great for eating out of hand, used in custards, pies and even wine. Eye catching dark red/maroon thick petaled flowers are truely unique. Lovely green obovate leaves have an long drip tip. Lovely butter to golden yellow autumn colour. Native to Eastern North America as an understory to tall hardwoods of the Carnolian forest. Grows to 10 meters tall with half the spread. Great for a small orchard. You need two for fruit production as they don't recognize their own pollen.
Notes: Northern source seed from Zone 5. Beautiful cold moist stored seed from a seed exchange. We had great germination repeatedly over the years. Protect seedlings from pesky nibblers, but older plants seem immune to pests. There is no such thing as too much valid information:

Cultivation: Seed dies if stored dry so our seed is kept in moist peat at 3-5 C for storage and complete the cold stratification cycle. Cold stratifed since late October so the 60 day cold stratification period could be finished. If not finish the 60 days at 4 C then expose to 20-25 C to germinate. Provide strong indirect light never full sun. Use deep pots when germinating in containers as it has one heck of a tap root.
