Clematis alpina

Native Region: Europe
Zone Range: 4-9
Preferred Climate: Full to semi sun; well draining humus rich moist acidic soil.
Harvest Date: Tuesday 17 November, 2009
Seed count: 12-15

Description:
A hardy clematis bears blue nodding flowers with a white centre in early spring. Doesn't require lots of space and loves to climb through trees, fences and other vertical supports. Hailing from Northern Europe, the only demand is has is its need for cool moist soils. Doesn't need much pruning or care, but if you must do some trimming, it must be done right after blooming as it bears its flowers on previous year's growth, pruning done later in the summer will leave you without flowers. Nice leaves.

Cultivation:
Easy. Remove tails. Soak in warm water 12-24 hours. Prepare medium of equal parts moistened peat and sand; tamp firm. Sow and barely cover. Mist well. Cover with clear plastic dome or similar. Germinate at 20-25 C. You should see sprouts in 3-4 weeks, if not cold stratify for 30 days or so and give warmth again to initiate germination. You can do this in a baggie and remove sproutlets as they emerge and transplant accordingly

Harvest Date: Tuesday 17 November, 2009
