Lonicera ciliosa
Western Trumpet Honeysuckle; Orange Honeysuckle
ca$ 3.75
Seed count: 15-20
Lonicera ciliosa
Lonicera ciliosa

Native Region: Pacific Northwest
Zone Range: 5-9
Preferred Climate: Sunny sites; well draining soil.
Harvest Date: Saturday 01 October, 2011
Seed count: 15-20

Description:
A lovely, carefree native deciduous honeysuckle to 6 meters in all directions. Lovely leaves and lovelier clusters of narrow mouthed orange trumpet shaped flowers that only hummingbirds are able to access the nectar bounty within. Deer resistant.

Notes:
Becareful when planting this honeysuckle near treasured trees as this honeysuckle will twist around the trunk and will be slowly strangled as the tree grows, of course the honeysuckle will also increase in girth. Another name for honeysuckle is woodbine as this species is no exception. Can be kept in control by regular pruning or grow on a trellis or fence where it can do what it does best. Drought tolerant when established.

Cultivation:
Soak seed 24 hours. Moist seeding layer should be leaning on the peat side of a peat/coarse sand mix. Sow 7 mm deep. Cover with 1 cm layer of fine mulch. Keep moist. Cold stratify 1-2 months then needs warmth (20 C) to germinate. Should germinate 14-30 days.

Harvest Date: Saturday 01 October, 2011
