Agastache foeiculum
Anise Hyssop; Licorice Mint
ca$ 2.50
Seed count: 150-200
Agastache foeiculum
Agastache foeiculum

Native Region: Eastern North America
Zone Range: 4-9
Preferred Climate: Full sun; well draining average soil.
Harvest Date: Monday 25 September, 2006
Seed count: 150-200

Description:
1.5m tall slender plants. Aptly named for its sweet licorice/anise scent of its leaves and violet-blue flowers. Looks very much like Agastache rugosa. Becomes an annual if you let it bloom in its first year. Non invasive. Very showy. Easy to grow.

Notes:
Because both A. foeiculum and A. rugosa are capable of cross pollination, the two species are grown far apart on our 2 acre property with the apiary inbetween (bees are less inclined to go from one to the other without stopping to dump off a the hive reducing cross pollination). Great nectar source for many flying creatures. Makes a great tea. Try soaking leaves in your liquid ingredients when making homemade ice cream. Pest free; easy to grow. Deer don't seem to bother it.

Cultivation:
Sow 4 mm deep. Keep moist; success better with plastic cover. Opt. germination temp: 15-22 C. Days to germ: 7-21.

Harvest Date: Monday 25 September, 2006
