 Aquilegia 'Spurred Yellow' |
Origin: Queen Charlotte Island collected Zone Range: 5-8 Preferred Situation: Semi sun with deep well draining soil Harvest Date: Saturday 02 September, 2006
Description: A graceful plant that reaches 100 cm and covered in creamy yellow blooms with slightly longer spurs than the norm. Nice basal clump of blue green leaves. Can become a large plant.
Notes: Due to Aquilegia's tendency to hybridize freely, this plant is more than likely a hybrid, but due to this single plant's isolation, its seedings will more than likely look like mom. I found this plant growing in cool semi shady site with well draining poor to average soil and it bloomed for over a month. Growing this plant in full sun may cause blooms to fade too quickly.
Cultivation: Soak seed 24 hours; fold in moist paper towel or coffee filter and place in pastic bag. Chill seed 5 days remove from paper. Press seed into medium. Keep moist, plastic cover improves success. Opt. germination temp: 21-27 C. Days to germ: 25-30. Needs darkness to germinate.
