 Delphinium 'Blue' |
Native Region: Queen Charlotte Island collected Zone Range: 4-9 Preferred Climate: Full/semi sun; well draining garden soil. Harvest Date: Monday 15 September, 2008 Seed count: 50-60
Description:
Stately 2 meter tall flowering stalks, rising from a basal cluster of deeply cut handsome leaves, are densely covered in dark velvety blue to pale blue blooms with or without a contrasting white/black bee or eye. Open pollinated.
Notes: Delphiniums thrive in cool moist well drainings soils so mulch appropriately if your site is on the warm side. Don't over fertilize the plants as this leads to soft weak stems cause the flowering stalks to topple in the wind. Delphiniums love an annual application of lime so take care when companion planting lime intolerant plants.
Cultivation: Freeze seed 24 hours; sow thinly; 4 mm deep in sandy medium. Keep moist. Clear plastic cover greatly improves success. Opt. germination temp: 12 C. Days to germ: 20. Grow at 16 C days/10 C nights. High temps kill seed & seedlings. Keep seed refrigerated as it is sensitive to temp fluxes.
