Description:
Tall wiry flowering stems arise from a basal clump of heavily veined spoon shaped large divided leaves. Clump can reach 30 cm in diameter. Bright golden yellow double flowers are held on thin branching stems and seem to hover 60 cm above the basal clump. Flowers from late Spring to mid Summer. Could be G. chiloense cultivar.
Notes:
Looks spectacular when companion planted with a vivid blue flowering plant of lesser height. Plants receives only morning to noon sun. Care free plant that seems to be deer proof.
Cultivation:
Seed has hairs. Don't remove as these keep the seed anchored to the soil/medium. Sow 6 mm deep; tamp firm and mist well. Keep moist but not overly so. Plastic cover improves success. Optimum germination temp: 20 C. Days to germination: 14-30 days. If no responce, place the pot in a cool environment (5-10C) for 30 days then retry. Prick out all seedlings around 4-5 true leaf stage to individual pots until ready transplant to permanent location.
