Lilium Orienpet Hybrid
Lilium Orienpet Hybrid

Native Region: Garden cultivar
Zone Range: 5-9
Preferred Climate: Full to semi sun; well draining humus rich soil.
Harvest Date: Wednesday 11 November, 2009
Seed count: 15-20

Description:
This striking hybrid 'Stargazer' is the offspring of two very desirable, highly fragrant Japanese species, Liliium speciosum and L. nobilissimum. L. specioisum provides its glorious dark pink spotted flowered trait and from L. nobilissium, the offspring inherited its trumpet flowered form. This 'Stargazer' hybrid is often seen in cut bouquets (so if it looks familiar now know why). Grows to 1-2 meters tall. Stately plants with lush green lance shaped foliage.

Notes:
Classes as an Orienpet or OT lilium where it is the offspring of two different lily forms Oriental which has blooms that open flat with reflexed petals (L. speciosum) and Trumpet form which the petals are held together to form a trumpet (L. nobilissium). Open pollinated seed. Don’t expect all the kids to look the same, but each is worthy of naming after loved ones.

Cultivation:
Both species possess hypogeal germination, so their kids will more than likely follow their parents. This means that the seed puts down a small bulb before pushing out leaves. At this time its very important not to let the seed/developing bublet dry out!!!!! Sow 4-6 mm deep in coarse layer of sand laid overtop the growing medium of humus rich fertile soil/medium. Keep moist. Give 20 C for three months then 4 C for 1 month then give another warm treatment of 20 C. You should see leaf tops in 2 months. There is the odd seed that will sprout almost immediately. Prick these out into individual pots and give supplimental light (never direct sun).

Harvest Date: Wednesday 11 November, 2009
