 Aquilegia vulgaris 'Masset Mix' |
Origin: Queen Charlotte Islands garden cultivars Zone Range: 4-9 Preferred Situation: Full to semi sun; well draining garden soil. Harvest Date: Wednesday 02 January, 2008
Description: A classic garden favourite. Every other garden has their own flavour of this flower, but the double bloomed forms are the most common. This blend is a mix of this, that, and the other. Some collections are from possible vulgaris crossed with hybrids of mixed species.
Notes: This is a mix of A. vulgaris types. Most are double or 'plena' forms. Whites, pinks, blues of various hues, and two toned. The yellow coloured Aquilegia grows in isolation so it is not part of this blend.
Cultivation: Soak seed 24 hours; fold in moist paper towel or coffee filter and place in pastic bag. Chill seed 5 days remove from paper. Press seed into medium. Keep moist, plastic cover improves success. Opt. germination temp: 21-27 C. Days to germ: 25-30. Needs darkness to germinate. I've broadcasted seed onto freshly tilled ground in May with great results--just keep soil moist until second set of true leaves unfurl.
