Agapanthus hybrids
Blue African Lily

$ 2.95
Seed count: 30-40
Agapanthus hybrids
Agapanthus hybrids
Origin: South Africa
Zone Range: 7-10
Preferred Situation: Full to semi sun; well draining garden soil.
Harvest Date: Tuesday 01 January, 2008

Description:
Flowerheads look like blue pom-poms on the end of stalks 1 meter in height rising from the basal cluster of strap like leaves. Fragrant and mid to late summer blooms keep the nectar seekers coming. Mixed heritage seed, so there could be some whites, violet tinted blues and dwarf flavours.

Notes:
Name the better selections after loved ones. Fleshy roots are fragile so be careful in dividing plants in spring when leaves show vigour. In cooler climates, can be dug up, placed in pots of moist peat and placed in an unheated greenhouse, root cellar, etc to over winter. Plant out when the plum/cherries are blooming. Mulch well.

Cultivation:
Easy! Sow in resealable baggie with 1/2 cup of moistened peat. Mix. Place somewhere where it will receive a constant temperature of 22-25C. Check in 4-5 days. You should see lots of white roots emerging. Transplant immediately to deep container. Space seedlings 2 cm apart. Keep evenly moist and grow on at 18-20 C. Provide lots of indirect light. Grow in container for one year and seat in final position after last spring frost. Don't let seedlings freeze in their first year. Intolerant to standing water/boggy conditions.
