 Iris siberica (br) |
Origin: Asia to Northern Europe. Zone Range: 3-9 Preferred Situation: Full to semi sun; any reasonably good garden soil. Harvest Date: Friday 06 October, 2006
Description: Lovely graceful blue flowers held on tall strong stems. Once established it makes a large clump of refined grass like leaves that stay green all summer with multiple flowers on each stem. Visited by bumble bees and hummingbirds.
Notes: US customers, check USDA's APHIS before ordering. If you want a living VanGogh, this is it. One of my first plants when establishing the garden. I use it to erosion control by stabilizing the drainage canals. Some sit in the water, some grow along the side, and others are meters away in a mass planting. Disease free, pest free, needs no special care. Took time off work just to enjoy the display!
Cultivation: Easy to grow. Needs good winter to spring moisture for proper flower display. Tolerates summer drought. Full growing instructions included with all bare root plants. Good vigorous divisions.
