Elegant Maple
ca$ 3.50
Seed count: 10-12
Acer elegantulum
Acer elegantulum

Native Region: China
Zone Range: 6-9
Preferred Climate: Semi sun; well draining humus rich soils
Harvest Date: Tuesday 03 January, 2012
Seed count: 10-12

Description:
An Asian maple possessing 'an elegant habit'. Five lobed leaves emerge in the spring a blood red then mature to a lovely green. Rare.

Cultivation:
Seed will be cold stratified for prompt germination in spring. You just have to continue the process upon receiving for ultimate growing happiness (as with all Acer genus members). Either sown in a nursery pot or in moist peat in a resealable baggie, it will germinate in cool temps so check often. Do not let seed freeze as this can delay germination or cause mortality to half germinated sproutlings. If baggie sown, check often, prick out seedlings. Give strong indirect light. New growth can be pink, so don't be alarmed. I use 1-2 gallon nursery containers to grow on for 1-2 years (depending on vigour) before either giving each plant their own pot or planting out in the arboretum. Protect from nibbling deer.

Harvest Date: Tuesday 03 January, 2012
