 Photinia davidiana |
Syn. Stranvaesia davidiana
Native Region: China Zone Range: 7-10 Preferred Climate: Full to partial sun; well draining humus rich acidic soil. Harvest Date: Saturday 04 December, 2010 Seed count: 12-15
Description: A lovely broadleaf evergreen shrub/tree with arching branching. Glossy lance shaped leaves look good throughout the season. In spring, masses of white flowers are borne on new growth and are followed by brilliant ruby red berry clusters that persist all winter providing colour and interest during winter. A tough plant here in Coastal BC where other plants' branches snapped under the snow weight. Easy to grow. Likes full to semi sun and well draining soil.
Cultivation: Soak seed 12-24 hours. Sow in a resealable baggie containing equal parts peat and coarse sand. Cold stratify in the fridge (3-4C) for 3 months. Germinate at 20 C. Should germinate in 4 weeks, if not give it time. Said to successfully germinate after passing through birds, so you might want to slightly scarify via rubbing seed with a small quanity of sand between the hands before soaking and stratifying.
