 Paeonia suffruticosa germinated seed |
Native Region: China/Japan Zone Range: 3-9 Preferred Climate: Full to semi shade; well draining soils Harvest Date: Monday 27 September, 2010 Seed count: 5-7
Description: Available for a very limited time as weather permits. Lovely healthy roots. Flower colour and form will vary but we've noted from years of growing that green leaved seedlings give white to pale pink flowers, whereas those with lots of red tend to give deep red flowers. Those with tints of red tend to give multicoloured to mid pink/red flowers. Easy to establish and should be grown in deep nursery pots for the first year or two...then seat it and watch it take off.
Notes: We've had plants bloom in three years after seating in the garden. Will reach 1 to 2 metres in size...and be a focal point in the garden. All are fragrant.
Cultivation: Sprouted seed and only available for a short time. Upon receiving prick out seedling and transplant into a deep nursery pot. Cover so the seed itself is are 1 inch below the soil surface. A touch of mulch never hurts. Don't let freeze. Grow on for 1-2 years before planting out in permanent site. Provide supplimental water until established.
