Description:
60-70 days. An heirloom English variety that does great in both greenhouse and outdoor culture. Dark green smooth non bitter fruits reach 12-15 inches long and are best grown on a trellis where it can climb otherwise the fruits tend to curl if they're grown on the ground. Very few seeds. Very refreshing crisp juicy flesh; excellent slicer, but great in many dishes...your imagination is the limit.
Cultivation:
Cukes hate having their roots disturbed so either direct sow when the soil is warm (20-30C) or sow in peat pots, soil blocks, or what ever works best for you (and the cuke) if you want to start early. Use a strong fence (tee-pee types don't work all that great) to keep the fruits off the soil. Keep soil moist but not wet. Plants like cool nights (15C) to keep them stocky. Can be a heavy feeder so keep the kelp solution ready. Excessive nitrogen gives lots of leaves but no fruits!
