 Deutzia pulchra |
Native Region: Taiwan; Phillipines Zone Range: 5-9 Preferred Climate: Dappled sun; well draining humus rich soil Harvest Date: Wednesday 14 March, 2012 Seed count: 60-75
Description:
Hillier claims this species the best Deutzia in cultivation. Large clusters of white flowers adorn the plant in late spring. Sometimes the blooms are touched with pale shell pink. If there is a perfume, it escapes my nose. Nice leathery lanceolate leaves with a serrated edge. Pale tan peeling bark exposes new orange bark beneath...adding to the winter interest. Arching multibranched form to 3 metres.
Cultivation: Thinly surface sow on prepared medium surface of well milled peat and coarse sand. Mist seed into soil surface. Do not cover with any medium. Keep moist/humid with a clear plastic cover. Should germinate in 7 days at 20-25C. Give bright indirect light and diluted liquid fertilizer when at the second or third true leaf stage. Prick out and grow on. Easy!
