Hosta 'Mixed Cultivars'

Native Region: Japan
Zone Range: 3-9
Preferred Climate: Prefers moist fertile well draining soil in semi sun.
Harvest Date: Saturday 24 October, 2009
Seed count: 75-100

Description:
An awesome mix of hard-to-find cultivars with many leaf forms and coloured patterns. All have beautiful trumpet shaped white to pale purple flowers (some are fragrant) on straight stems hence it's common name of 'Plantain Lily'. Flowers are fragrant on some varieties and range in colour from creamy white to a mid violet/blue. Very hardy, very easy to grow. With their amazing mounding foliage, hostas are a welcomed addition to any shade garden. Seedlings from this mix are showing promise of something wonderful!

Notes:
Plump hand selected seed. Protect from slugs in first few years. Some of the slower to germinate seed result in more desirable forms. Colour pattern on leaves will not show until second year. Seedlings may reach sizes of 1 meter tall with equal spread in three years. Grow your own cultivar and name it after someone you love. Bulk seed available.

Cultivation:
Sow thinly; barely cover seed. Keep moist; plastic cover improves success. Opt. germination temp: 15-20 C. Days in germ: 6-90. Protect from varmits. Can be started indoors anytime under any desklight. Seed started in a resealable baggie in damp peat/vermiculite on gentle bottom heat germinated in 6-8 days. You just have to transplant into indiviudual cells in a plug tray (or what serves best) and grow on. Bigger the plants when you seat them outside, the sooner you will have your shade garden filled with your own cultivars. Name the unique ones after loved ones.
