Acer japonicum

Full Moon Maple

ca$ 3.50
Seed count: 12-15
Acer japonicum
Acer japonicum
Native Region: Japan
Zone Range: 5-8
Preferred Climate: Semi sun; deep well draining evenly moist soil.
Harvest Date: Tuesday 13 November, 2012
Seed count: 12-15

Description:
Broad circular green leaves with up to 9 tapered tips. Looks very much like our native Vine Maple (Acer circinatum) in leaf and artistic or undulating branch form.

Notes:
Will be offered until it starts germinating then you'll see it in our bareroot section the following year! Over 90% germination cut rate. About 5% of the seed bear twin embryos so two seedlings emerge from one seed.

Cultivation:
Seed kept in cool moist sand until ready to ship. Soak seed in tepid water 12-24 hours. Sow 6 mm deep; tamp soil. Cold stratify for 60-120 days. Expose seed to spring conditions to promote germination. Exposure to direct light not critical. Protect seed/seedlings from varmits. I prick out seedlings when dormant and grow in pots for first 2-3 years.

Harvest Date: Tuesday 13 November, 2012
