Western Trillium

$ 3.50
Seed count: 12-15
Trillium ovatum
Trillium ovatum
Origin: West Coast North America
Zone Range: 5-9
Preferred Situation: Open woodland; dappled/morining sun; well draining soil
Harvest Date: Thursday 06 September, 2007

Description:
Our western lily that never fails to stop people in full stride. Gorgeous white three petaled flowers fade to wine purple. Its lovely three leaves are a lovely green. Co-evolved with our wacky climate of drenched Winters and Summer drought. Tubers usually sit deeply when established, but very shallow as seedlings.

Notes:
Great germination judging from last year's crop. If properly grown (read: minimal disturbance) will bloom in 5-6 years from seed. Should see little green sprouts in September. Do not let seedlings freeze during winter.

Cultivation:
Stratifying fresh seed. Sow immediate upon receiving for September germination. Sow in humus rich soil in a deep nursery pot and just cover the seed. Keep moist. Do not disturb until their second/third year when transplanting to final position. Adding humus rich top layer to bulblets in August is beneficial.

Harvest Date: Thursday 06 September, 2007
