Mimulus guttatus
Yellow Monkey Flower
ca$ 2.50
Seed count: 75-100
Mimulus guttatus
Mimulus guttatus

Native Region: Pacific Northwest (Queen Charlotte Island collected)
Zone Range: 5-9
Preferred Climate: Semi sun to shady sites; evenly moist to damp sites; average soil.
Harvest Date: Wednesday 29 September, 2010
Seed count: 75-100

Description:
A clump forming perennial (60 cm tall hairy stems) with short creeping rhizomes. Bright yellow flowers with dark orange spotting really lights up any shady spot in the garden.

Notes:
Very fine seed. I've seen this Mimulus for years so its definately not an annual for those wondering. Stems droop with its heavy flower burden perhaps a peony ring will keep stems upright.

Cultivation:
Mix with a little fine sand for better seed distrubtion when sowing. Needs light to germinate so keep this in mind when judging the quantity of sand and the surface area of the sowing site. Once sown, keep moist. A plastic cover greatly increases success. Some sheer drapery material or remay laid overtop the plastic cover mimics natural growing conditions. Needs 3 weeks for cold stratification at 5 C. Will germinate in 7-21 days at 20 C. Let seedlings grow to 4-5 true leaf stage before thinking about pricking out and/or transplanting.

Harvest Date: Wednesday 29 September, 2010
