Native Region: Spain, Portugal & Northern Africa. Zone Range: 5-8 Preferred Climate: Dappled shade to open woodland forest; well draining humus rich soil. Harvest Date: Saturday 20 September, 2008 Seed count: 20-25
Description: A lovely woodland perennial that comes up in early March in our garden. Its large unmarked broad fleshy strap like leaves unfold and by early April gorgeous blue bell flowers hang in loose clusters on sturdy stems that arch with the weight of the blooms. Blooms have a slightly darker blue stripe on the bell petals a distinctive trait that identifies it from English Bluebells that do not have this stripe.
Notes: An ancient gardener planted these long ago. Some pink variants in this strain. Sturdy flower stems support their blossom weight even when rain soaked.
Cultivation: Soak seeds 24 hours. Cold stratify 6 weeks in moist peat then sow 6 mm deep in humus rich medium. Germinate at 15-18 C.
