Description:
A very pretty edible with slightly savoyed leaves. Strong-ish spicy flavour that is great in salads, stir-fries, pickled, and other dishes limited only by your imagination. Very hardy, so its good as winter greens. Cooler the weather, the milder the flavour. Slow to bolt. Plants grow fairly large in the right spot in very little time (60 days). Leaves burst forth in a rosette form, along with the foliage colour, its gorgeous enough for the flower bed.
Cultivation:
Easy! Sow seed 5 mm deep in well draining fertile medium. Germinates in 6-10 days at 15-20 C. Thinly sow if you're planting directly into the garden. If starting indoors, use large deep celled plug trays so the vigour won't be hampered by a small root system. Transplant out, and space appropriately to accomidate 30 cm diameter plants for harvest.
