Cantaloupe 'Petit Gris de Rennes'
Origin: French 1700's cultivar
Preferred Situation: Full sun; well draining fertile soil.
Harvest Date: Wednesday 23 November, 2011
Seed count: 25-30

Description:
80-85 days. An early ripening orange fleshed melon from French antiquity. Renowned for its sweet, flavourful taste and perfumed scent. If that wasn't enough, it grows well in our 'cooler' coastal climate. Fruits weigh in at 2 lbs (1 kg). Grey-green rind that takes on an orange cast when ripe...if the perfume doesn't tell you its already ripe!

Notes:
Create lasting memories with your children, or children's children by sharing the delights of an edible garden.

Cultivation:
Best when direct seeded in warm soil after the danger of frost has passed. Plant 6-8 seeds 1" deep in 12" diameter hills spaced 6' apart each way. After germination pinch off all but 3-4 of the strongest seedlings. We baggie sow in moist medium of sand/peat mix and place in a warm spot. Prick out seedlings and transplant into deep pots. As they grow in the greenhouse gaining strength and size, get the beds ready so when you set plants outside, you already have a jump start to the season of fresh fruit straight from the vine! True OMG moments.

Harvest Date: Wednesday 23 November, 2011
