Native Region: Himaylayas, Nepal, Central China Zone Range: 7-10 Preferred Climate: Semi sun; well draining humus rich soil Harvest Date: Thursday 10 November, 2011 Seed count: 12-15
Description: A rare snakebark maple with triand lovely shallowly cut pointed trilobed leaves. Lovely dark green bark is marked with white irregular streaking. Its form is upright, but the supple arching branches gives it a cascading effect. Ideal as a focal point along a path in any landscape.
Cultivation: Seed from this species has a very thin seed coat. Best if not stored in moist peat, but peat that is just barely moist so that the peat still has a dry feel to it. If cold stratified in anything with more moisture thin coated maple seed tends to rot! This is how the seed will be stored. Does tend to germinate in the fridge when spring like conditions arrive hre in late April, but given very gentle heat it will germinate sooner in the later winter. Don't let seedlings nor seed dry out. Give seedlings indirect light. Does well under the diesk light on the computer desk growing together in a 15cm square pot if you don't have a greenhouse, coldframe, or something siimilar.
