 Spinach 'Bloomsdale' |
Origin: 1920's cultivar Preferred Situation: Full to semi sun; well draining fertile moist garden soil Harvest Date: Friday 09 October, 2009 Seed count: 150-200
Description: 60 days. Well known tender edible green with thick delicious leaves good in salads or cooked for classic Greek spinach pastries or simply steamed. Harvest by picking individual leaves or the entire plant. Can reach 30 cm tall with equal spread, so there is a lot to put on your plate. More heat tolerant than most other spinach varieties, so its less inclined to bolt. Likes moist soil for best performance as ill treated spinach grown in dry poor soil gives less than ideal tasting leaves....as any spinach would.
Cultivation: Sow either in fall or spring for greens. Multiple sowings spaced a week or two apart will ensure a steady supply of greens.
