 Nicotiana sylvestris |
Native Region: Argentina Zone Range: 10-11 Preferred Climate: Full to semi sun; well draining humus rich soil Harvest Date: Wednesday 14 October, 2009 Seed count: 250-300
Description: Clusters of long stemmed starry flowers burst forth from the multi terminal ends of this annual. Bright green leaves. Seems to be deer proof too. Awesome fragrance so make sure you plant it near a window that you have open during warm summer nights. Very pretty plant. Reaches 60-150 cm in height with a fairly narrow spread. Will self seed.
Notes: Classed as a half hardy annual but it can be a short lived perennial in warmer climates.
Cultivation: Prepare sowing surface (whether in a flower bed or flats). Mix seed with a little sand for even sowing by either sprinkling or flinging/broadcasting. Mist seed in to sowing surface (or broadcast just before a spring rain). Needs light to germinate. Should germinate in 1-3 weeks at 15-25C. Make sure the seedlings don't dry out nor let them freeze.
