This is the rosemary of cooking, herbal lore and legend. Since it is attractive and drought tolerant, this evergreen shrub is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and for xeriscape landscaping, especially in regions of Mediterranean climate. It is considered easy to grow and pest-resistant. Rosemary can grow quite large and retain attractiveness for many years, can be pruned into formal shapes and low hedges and has been used for topiary. It is easily grown in pots. Height and spread is up to 5 feet.
The name derives from the Latin words ros marinus, which translate as dew of the sea. According to legend, it was draped around the Greek goddess Aphrodite when she rose from the ocean upon her birth.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in containers in autumn or spring. Maintain even, but not excessive, moisture. Grow on in any good garden soil. Hardy to -15°C (5°F), although leaves may be severely damaged by exposure to sun during freezing weather.
