Zone Range: 08-10
Preferred Climate: Warm temperate woodland
Harvest Date: Sunday 11 October, 2015
Seed count: 100-150
Sprays of small white flowers in late spring are followed by berries in shades of blue purple and mauve, all on the same evergreen shrub. 1-3 feet high and 4 feet wide.
When you are ready to sow the seed, in the early to mid spring, split open the berries and carefully scrape out the seeds within. Mix the seeds with a small quantity of sterilized sand (a tablespoon or so) and sprinkle the mixture onto lightly firmed starter mix in clean clay pots. Keep evenly moist, but not damp. Transplant seedlings only after several true leaves have developed. Grow in acidic to neutral, peaty moist soil in partial shade. For maximum freshness, please keep the berries refrigerated in their original packaging until it is time to plant.
