 Berberis morrisonensis |
Native Region: Taiwan Zone Range: 6-9 Preferred Climate: alpine tundra Harvest Date: Sunday 25 September, 2005 Seed count: 20-25
Description: Berberis morrisonensis is a prickly deciduous shrub that is extensively branched. Can reach 6 feet height and spread if sheltered from cold winds, but more typically grows to 2 feet high. It has obovate, sharp-toothed glossy green leaves and fine, long, sharp and prickly nodes. It produces yellow flowers in the summer, and its fruits and leaves turn from green to flaming red in the autumn.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in spring into pots using standard loam-based seed compost. Cover with perlite or vermiculite and place in a cold frame. Germination takes 3-4 months. Grow in any well-drained soil in full sun. Fruiting and autumn colour are better in full sun.
