This dome-shaped evergreen shrub has orbicular leaves that are bronze when new, changing to bright blue/green. It bears shell-pink open bell-shaped flowers in loose trusses of two to three flowers in early spring. Height/spread 5 feet.
Rhododendron seeds, small and delicate as they may appear, require scarification to break through the tough seed coat, as this allows moisture in to enter the seed and begin the germination process. See detailed instructions in the article "Starting Rhododendron Seeds" at www.plantexplorers.com/vandusen/articles.
Grow in moist, well-drained humusy acidic soil in sun to part shade. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
