Sorbus hupehensis

Hubei Mountain Ash, White Mountain Ash

Seed count: 20-25
Sorbus hupehensis
Sorbus hupehensis
   Syn. Sorbus glabrescens

Native Region: Central & Western China
Zone Range: 06-08
Preferred Climate: Temperate
Harvest Date: Sunday 23 November, 2008
Seed count: 20-25

This columnar deciduous tree has pinnate blue-green leaves that turn red in the fall. Panicles of white flowers in spring are followed by white flushed pink berries. Height and spread 25 feet.

For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Seeds should be sown in containers in the autumn. The pots should be placed where they are reasonably sheltered from extreme cold, and not permitted to become either excessively dry, or kept soaking wet for long periods, so the shelter of a coldframe may be needed. Spring sowings may be done in small pots stored in the refrigerator for six to eight weeks, then moved to the shelter of a cool shady area outside to acclimatize. Grow in moderately-fertile, humusy, acidic to neutral well-drained soil in full sun.

Harvest Date: Sunday 23 November, 2008
