Pterocarya macroptera
Native Region: China
Zone Range: 07-09
Preferred Climate: Temperate
Harvest Date: Sunday 26 September, 2010
Seed count: 8-10

Description:
This spreading deciduous tree has pinnate leaves and produces small winged green fruit in pendent spikes in summer. Height to 70 feet; spread 40 feet.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Soak seed 24 hours, wrap in moist coffee filter, place in resealable baggie and cold stratify for 5-7 weeks at 2-4C. Then remove the softened wing-like appendages and begin warm stratification cycle in the resealable baggie as the seed needs light to germinate. Give 30C days and 20C nights. Should germinate in 1-3 weeks. Prick out seedlings and transplant into deep pots. Use clear plastic cover to maintain even warmth and humidity. Vent occasionally. Grow in deep fertile moist but well-drained soil in full sun.
