 Digitalis purpurea 'Pink' |
Native Region: Europe Zone Range: 05-09 Preferred Climate: Suited to a wide range of conditions Harvest Date: Sunday 18 July, 2010 Seed count: 100-150
Description:
This is one of the truly grand old-fashioned flowers of that almost mythical English Cottage Garden, which so many people strive to recreate. This biennial produces attractive rosettes of large leaves in the first year, with tall spikes of flowers up to 2m(6ft) or more in height the second year.
Notes: The plants that produced the seed for this mixed selection were grown together in VanDusen's Cottage Garden. The individual colour selections were collected from relatively isolated plants, although some variation should be expected.
Cultivation: Sow seed in containers in spring for best results, but the seed may be scattered where it is to grow. Plants may need shelter from wind, or staking in exposed areas. Grow in any except for very wet or very dry soil; prefers humusy soil in partial shade. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
