 Rhododendron ciliatum |
Native Region: Nepal, Sikkim, China Zone Range: 07-09 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 05 December, 2010 Seed count: 75-100
Description: This compact evergreen shrub has dark green elliptic leaves, bordered with fine hairs (ciliate). Bears clusters of bell-shaped white-tinged-pink flowers in spring. Another feature of the plant is its peeling, reddish-brown bark.
Cultivation: Rhododendron seeds, small and delicate as they may appear, require scarification to break through the tough seed coat, as this allows moisture in to enter the seed and begin the germination process. See detailed instructions in the article "Starting Rhododendron Seeds" at www.plantexplorers.com/vandusen/articles. Grow in moist, well-drained humusy acidic soil in semi-shade..
