This bromeliad bears terminal rosettes of lance-shaped , dark green leaves that are white and scaly underneath. In summer, the plant bears pyramidal panicles of aqua-turquoise flowers with orange stamens. Height to 6 feet, spread 10 feet. Suits a desert or alpine garden.
From the same plant family that gives us pineapples comes this strikingly elegant plant from central Chile. The rosettes of stiff narrow leaves are attractive and architectural enough on their own, but when the plant flowers, that’s when it really comes into its own. The flowers are a sapphire or aqua-turquoise that is almost unheard of in the plant world. A real treasure.
Sow seed at 18-24°C (66-75 °F). Grow in well-drained soil in full sun. Protect from winter moisture. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
