 Bergenia cordifolia |
Native Region: Siberia, Mongolia Zone Range: 04-09 Preferred Climate: Cool Temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 01 July, 2007 Seed count: 75-100
Description: This is an unusual perennial in that it has comparatively large leaves that are evergreen, yet the plant is extremely hardy, tolerating temperatures to -20°C. The plants require protection from cold, drying winds.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Surface sow fine seed in a coldframe or cool greenhouse in the spring. Light is required for germination. Do not allow the soil surface to dry out. Seed may take several months to germinate. Transfer the seedlings to individual pots when they are large enough to handle, and grow them on in a sheltered loation until they are at least a year old. Grow outdoors humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Mulch in autumn.
