A hosta of uncertain origin - is it a species, or is it a cultivar of ancient origin? The plants, in the Sino-Himalayan Garden at VanDusen, come consistently true from seed, producing relatively small plants with leaves that rarely exceed 15cm (6in) in length. The flower stems, which grow to 25-30cm (10-12in) in height, have from 3-7 blooms each, opening in succession over several weeks during the summer.
This hosta looks particularly good when planted in large drifts, which establish more rapidly than with most varieties.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in a cool greenhouse or coldframe in spring. Grow on in any good garden soil with good drainage. Plants should attain flowering size in 2-3 years. General care is the same as for any Hosta.
