Sargent Spruce, Chinese Weeping Spruce
ca$ 3.95
Seed count: 25-30
Picea brachytyla
Picea brachytyla

Native Region: Central and Western China
Zone Range: 08-09
Preferred Climate: Temperate
Harvest Date: Sunday 22 October, 2006
Seed count: 25-30

Description:
This conical tree will become more dome shaped in great age, taking on a decidedly uncommon appearance. In youth the tree is conical with upward arching branches and pendent branchlets. Very attractive conifer, and still rare in the west.

Notes:
The common name comes from Charles Sargent, the man who helped to introduce this wonderful species of spruce to western gardens.

Cultivation:
Sow seed in containers in a coldframe in autumn or spring. Cold stratification may improve germination if seed is planted in the spring. Grow on in deep moist but well-drained, neutral to acidic soil in full sun. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.

Harvest Date: Sunday 22 October, 2006
