Origin: Europe Preferred Situation: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 01 October, 2006 Seed count: 20-25
Description: This is an annual grass with linear, light green leaves that produces narrow, cylindrical spike-like flowers in summer. Height is about 3 feet. The seed can be cooked as a whole grain or ground into flour for making bread. The seed can also be fermented into foods such as 'tempeh' and 'miso' or it can be sprouted and added to salads.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow in situ in March or October and only just cover the seed. Make sure the soil surface does not dry out if the weather is dry. Germination takes place within 2 weeks. Grow in any well-drained, moderately-fertile moist soil in full sun.
