Description:
This perennial native plant produces mostly evergreen leaves in basal clusters. It has tall, creamy to pale yellow flower spikes in mid spring to late summer depending on elevation.
Notes:
Heucheras were important medicinal plants for the North American native people. An infusion made from the roots was used as an astringent in treating wounds. One made from the leaves was used to treat sore feet.
Cultivation:
Sow seeds in the fall in flats and leave outside over winter. Some seedlings may appear in the fall, but most will appear after weather warms in the spring. It is also possible to sow in the spring. Keep moist until large enough to transplant. Grow in part shade or dappled light, and rocky, well-drained, moist to rather dry soil. May take a couple of years to reach flowering size. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
