 Streptopus amplexifolius |
Native Region: North America Zone Range: 5-8 Preferred Climate: temperate Harvest Date: Sunday 07 August, 2011 Seed count: 10-12
Description: This perennial's leaves completely encircle the stem, and the stems have a kink at each leaf axil giving the plants stem a "twisted" appearance. Greenish-white flowers hang from axils on thin kinked panicles, and are followed by red berries. Best in a shaded location in moist soil.
Notes: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
Cultivation: Sow seed in a cold frame as soon as it is received. The seed can be slow to germinate, sometimes taking 18 months or more. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots once they are large enough to handle and grow them on in a shady part of the greenhouse or cold frame. It will normally take 2 or more growing seasons before the roots are large enough to plant out - this is best done when the plant is dormant in the autumn.
