Rhododendron moupinense
Native Region: western China
Zone Range: 07-09
Preferred Climate: temperate

Description:
This evergreen shrub has dark glossy green leaves that are sometimes pale green on their undersides. Bears white flushed pink flowers with red-spotted throats in very early spring. Height/spread 3 feet.

Cultivation:
Rhododendron seeds, small and delicate as they may appear, require scarification to break through the tough seed coat, as this allows moisture in to enter the seed and begin the germination process. See detailed instructions in the article "Starting Rhododendron Seeds" at www.plantexplorers.com/vandusen/articles. Grow in moist, well-drained humusy acidic soil in semi-shade. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant.
