Description:
Columnar to conical deciduous tree with peeling, red-brown bark. This tree has lance-shaped glossy dark green leaves that turn orange and red in autumn. Notes: Stewartias are trees of such remarkable qualities that it’s surprising they’re not more widely available.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Plant seed in containers in a coldframe in autumn or spring. Scarification and cold stratification may improve germination if seed is planted in the spring. Grow on in moist but well-drained neutral to acidic humusy soil in full sun or light shade.
