Cornus poliophylla
Cornus poliophylla
   Syn. Cornus schindleri subsp. poliophylla

Native Region: eastern Asia, western China
Zone Range: 7-9
Preferred Climate: temperate
Harvest Date: Tuesday 16 August, 2016
Seed count: 15-20

This rare deciduous shrub grows to 12 feet tall and wide. It has red twigs and bears corymbs of white flowers in July, August, followed by clusters of blue-black fruit.

For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sows seed as soon as ripe in a cold frame. Stored seed should be cold stratified for 3 - 4 months and sown as early as possible in the year. Scarification may aid germination as may a period of warm stratification before the cold stratification. Germination can be very slow, taking 18 months or more. Prick out the seedlings of cold-frame sown seeds into individual pots when large enough to handle; grow on for the first winter in a greenhouse, plant out the following spring after the last expected frosts. Grow in moist, loamy soil in part shade.
