This evergreen shrub's leaves are used to produce tea. Unpruned, the plant becomes tree-like to about ten feet tall, but is usually trimmed to about 6 feet for tea leaf production. Bears small white saucer-shaped flowers with yellow stamens in spring.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seed in autumn into pots or modules using standard ericaceous seed compost. Cover with perlite or vermiculite, place in a cold. frame. Germination takes 2-6 months. Keep young plants in a cold frame for their first year. Grow in well-drained neutral to acidic soil in part shade, preferably sheltered from strong winds.
