Native Region: garden origin
Pea 'Magnolia Blossom'
Preferred Climate: temperate
Harvest Date: Sunday 23 July, 2017
Seed count: 20-25
This pea makes prolific vines to 8 feet tall and bears bicolor purple flowers, followed by green snap pods, some with a purple stripe. Bred by Dr. Alan Kapular, this has been called a hypertendril pea, as it makes enlarged tendrils in place of some leaves. The tendrils make for a more open habit, allowing better air flow and reducing diseases and are good to eat in salads or as a garnish.
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Winter sow in vented containers, coldframe or an unheated greenhouse or direct sow as soon as the ground can be worked, or sow indoors before last frost. Plant 3-6 inches apart in rows 18-24 inches apart in full sun and moist cool soil. Provide support for vines. Grow in average garden soil in full sun.
