 Gypsophila repens 'Rosea' |
Native Region: Mountainous regions from Northern Spain to the Carpathians Zone Range: 04-07 Preferred Climate: Temperate alpine Harvest Date: Tuesday 22 July, 2008 Seed count: 30-40
Description: Delicate sprays of small pinkish-white flowers cascading over rocks makes an elegant display in rock or alpine gardens. This mat-forming evergreen perennial has blue-green leaves. Height 8 inches; spread 12-20 inches.
Notes: The name Gypsophila comes from the Greek word for chalk as several species, including G. repens, prefer alkaline soil. Most, however, will tolerate acid soil, but the addition of dolomite lime can often improve the health of a flagging specimen.
Cultivation: For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seeds at 13-18 degrees Celsius in winter, or in a cold frame in spring. Grow in light alkaline sharply-drained soil in full sun. Dislikes winter moisture.
