Lupinus polyphyllus
Lupinus polyphyllus

Native Region: Western North America
Zone Range: 03-09
Preferred Climate: Temperate
Harvest Date: Tuesday 02 August, 2011
Seed count: 15-20

Description:
This native perennial plant produces several tall stems from a branched crown. It has dense blue to violet flowers from early to late summer. It reseeds generously.

Notes:
Lupines are important food plants for the larvae of some butterflies, and many wildlife eat the seeds. Grizzlies are particularly fond of the roots, although the alkaloids produced by some lupines are toxic to humans and livestock.

Cultivation:
For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. Sow seeds in the fall or store for spring planting. Before planting in spring, put seeds in a dish and pour hot (not boiling) water over them. Cool and plant in flats or directly in the garden. Grow in full sun to part shade, and moist to rather wet soil.

Harvest Date: Tuesday 02 August, 2011
