Native Region: Mexico and Guatemala
Zone Range: 08-10
Preferred Climate: Temperate to Tropical
Harvest Date: Tuesday 23 October, 2007
Seed count: 20-25

Description:
These striking flowers will elicit many comments in the summer when they begin to flower. Individual blooms are relatively short lived, but produced in succession. Collected from isolated red flowered plants at VanDusen Botanical Garden.

Notes:
This delightful bulb has similar hardiness to Gladiolus, and can grow in the same conditions – a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. This seed has been collected from plants that have proven hardy in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Cultivation:
Seed should be surface sown on pots of sterilized sandy soil, and then sprinkled sparingly with coarse gravel. Germinate at 14-18°C (55-65°F). Surface sowing is recommended, as light may be required for germination. For maximum freshness, please keep seed refrigerated in its original packaging until it is time to plant. In most regions it is best to lift the bulbs in the autumn and store them in dry sand in a cool basement (10°C - 50°F) to be planted again in a sunny position next spring when danger of frost has past. Bulbs should be planted 10cm(4in) deep.

Harvest Date: Tuesday 23 October, 2007
